Kingsley Suamataia, Adidas All-American offensive tackle, includes Oregon Ducks in top 7 - OregonLive

The Oregon Ducks have 18 commitments in their 2021 recruiting class, meaning spots are becoming scare and key remaining targets are emerging.

One of those top targets is 247Sports four-star offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia, who recently accepted an invitation to compete in the Adidas All-American Bowl.

On Saturday evening, the 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive lineman, out of Orem High School (Orem, Utah), announced a top seven of Arkansas, BYU, Oregon, USC, Utah, Utah State and Virginia, paying homage to his grandpa in his visual release:

Suamataia is a consensus four-star prospect, rated the nation’s No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 58 overall prospect, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Oregon’s inclusion is far from a surprise.

The Ducks have been the projected favorites for more than year, stemming from Suamataia’s close relationship to the Sewell family, including Oregon left tackle Penei Sewell and linebacker Noah Sewell, as well as coach Mario Cristobal.

Throughout his recruitment, Suamataia has insisted he hopes to take his five official visits, but with the NCAA declaring an emergency dead period in response to the coronavirus his plans are up in the air.

And that has also made it difficult for the Utah product to speculate on a decision date.

“(I’m) not sure yet, especially if I can’t do visits,” Suamataia said. “We may do it earlier than planned.”

If, in fact, Oregon is able to secure the talented offensive tackle’s signature, they will be getting an impact player in the trenches, according 247Sports mountain region recruiting analyst Blair Angulo’s scouting report:

“Strong frame with broad shoulders and long arms. Stout lower half and high-upside build without bad weight. Nimble offensive tackle with mobility. Agile and athletic out of his stance. Sets a strong base and quick to react to counter moves. Blocks through the whistle. Can easily off-set speed rush to the outside. Does well to knock back defenders at point of attack. Could continue to improve toughness and maintaining leverage in run-block game. Potential multi-year starter, All-Conference type performer and future NFL Draft Day selection.”

Oregon has three offensive line pledges in the 2021 class thus far - Adidas All-American offensive tackle Bram Walden, Under Armour All-American center Jackson Light and four-star versatile offensive lineman Jonah Miller.

But Cristobal could take two more if the Ducks are able to secure Suamataia and Rivals five-star interior lineman Bryce Foster.

Making Suamataia’s top seven is a step forward in that aim.
