Nike (NKE) has celebrated Pride Month with its “Be True” collection since 2012. In 2021, the tradition continues with both the Swoosh brand and Converse with colorful new footwear to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.
The Pride Chuck 70s is part of the Converse All-Stars "Show Love Without Barriers" collection. The off-white shoe features rainbow graphics designed by Xandro Miguell. Converse officials tell Yahoo Finance that the print explores the duality of struggle and joy and the journey to self-love. The shoe retails for $70.
Like its subsidiary brand, Nike is getting into the Pride Month spirit with its “Be True” footwear and apparel collection. Each sneaker comes with a velcro patch to which the wearer can choose from eight flags to affix to their shoe, including progress, lesbian, transgender, intersex flag, bisexual pansexual, asexual, genderqueer, or agender flags.
The “Be True” collection includes four footwear offerings: The Infinity React ($160), which features Nike’s Flyknit design; the Air Max Pre-Day ($130), sporting a blue hue and colorful gradient Swoosh; the classic Blazer ’77 Low ($90), featuring a rainbow Swoosh; and the All Out Utility Slide ($45), that has a dual-layered foam sole and a zip pocket.
In 2021, the Swoosh brand donated over $625,000 to 18 LGBTQIA+ community projects.
