Nike will require employees in its 286-acre Beaverton, Oregon, campus to work three days a week in the office, Insider has learned.

In an email sent to employees on Wednesday, first reported by Yahoo Finance, Nike's Vice President of Workplace Design and Connectivity Jeff Nichols outlined a plan for a hybrid work model for office-based employees in the company's world headquarters. Employees will be given the option to work two full days remotely.

"Given what we've learned in the last year — the need to allow for more flexibility, remain agile and ensure greater equity — campus will look, feel and operate a bit differently," Nichols wrote, adding that the plan to implement a hybrid work model was in the works before the pandemic began.

According to SEC filings, Nike employed a total of about 76,700 employees in offices and retail stores across the globe as of May 31, 2019. About 12,600 employees worked at its world headquarters in Oregon. Most Beaverton-based employees have been working from home since March 2020.

In a statement to Insider, Nike said "Nike's business and culture thrive when we collaborate, create and learn together. We plan for office-based employees to return to the workplace under a new, flexible model, balancing individual needs with the needs of the business."

The timelines and details of employees return to office will vary by country and location, the company said. For its Beaverton headquarters, staff will be able to return to campus in September.

Upon the return to campus, Nike will also offer more shared workspaces designed for collaboration and a mobile food ordering program for employees, the email outlined.

"Please remember, we are all learning and evolving the way we work together," Nichols wrote in the memo. "This flexible model is new to all of us, and we'll continue to seek your input and make adjustments as needed over time."
