Samsung’s proprietary streaming-video platform, Samsung TV Plus, is expanding its offerings with Loupe, a 4K-resolution linear service that pairs visual works from up-and-coming international artists with instrumental music.

The addition is another example of the flowering of online video into countless niches beyond the big-name services that have launched in the past 18 months, as content owners try to feed growing audiences on connected TVs with a wide range of programming.

“At Samsung, we’re thinking far outside the traditional ‘TV box’ of movies and shows by expanding our content slate to include digital art," said Takashi Nakano, Samsung TV Plus head of global business development. “Artists can trust that their artwork will be seen in millions of homes across the U.S. with an awe-inspiring translation of the depth, detail, and nuance of the original.”

It’s a big deal for Loupe too, the first time its service will appear on a 4K TV platform that can show off the artists’ work. Services such as Loupe provide a different kind of viewing experience than traditional TV, turning a screen into a gallery that doesn’t require as much intensive attention.

Loupe was founded by CEO Dot Bustelo, a former Apple AAPL AAPL executive, author and Emmy-winning producer.

MORE FOR YOU

“The ability to showcase rising global artists’ work in 4K is game changing for those wishing to enjoy an immersive, sensory experience with unique content throughout their day,” Bustelo said.

The service provides several linear “channels’ built around themes such as “hypnotic visuals,” “epic landscapes,” travel photography, black & white images and more. The site will also sell some of the art on display, and prints from many of the artists on display.
