Only a few days after revealing a pineapple-topped Nike Free Run Trail, the Swoosh is continuing to push the limits of its creativity for the comeback of the early 2010s runner. For an upcoming arrangement, the brand experiments with both new materials and archive elements to deliver a trail-inspired design.
At first glance, the perforated synthetic leather uppers seem to adopt a solid grey coloring. A closer look reveals reflective trail lines, possibly of those found in Nike’s home state of Oregon. Underneath is an airy mesh layer in an equally neutral beige shade. To further the hiking aesthetic, the pair ditches its customary laces for a toggle lace system that uses teal elastic cords. This teal shade is also used on the nylon heel pull tab, which features a reflective stripe.
Another nod at the great outdoors would be the grass imagery that covers the insoles. The printed insoles also see grid lines over a skeleton foot—graphics found on the insoles of Nike Free 5.0 models in the early 2000s. As for the sole unit, the model may have chosen to go about an eco-conscious approach. The speckled, mint midsole seems to be composed of the same Crater foam incorporated in the Nike Cosmic Unity “Green Glow”—the first-ever sustainable basketball shoe. Underfoot, sections of the Swoosh’s Regrind rubber are found as another innovative, recycled element. A Nike-branded double-gated carabiner completes the offering, preparing wearers for their next outdoor adventure.
