Love or hate his style, there's no denying that 26-year-old Justin Bieber has a good thing going on when it comes to his sneaker collection. Over the past year he has been seen in more ultra-rare, unobtainable kicks than any other celebrity.
For instance, in May this year he threw on a pair of long-gone Nike Air Yeezy 2 NRGs from when Kanye West collaborated with the Oregon-based brand in the early 2010s, before moving to Adidas. What's more, he also owns a pair of the West-designed Nike Air Yeezy 2 "Red October" sneaks, and over the past few months he has shown off a pair of hard-to-buy Travis Scott x Nike SB Dunk Lows and Virgil Abloh's Off-White x Nike hook up.
Now, the Canadian singer has gone and flaunted a pair of Nike trainers that we've never actually seen before. Promoting the release of the acoustic version of his track “Holy”, which features Chance the Rapper, the "Never Say Never" singer posted an image of the duo to Instagram. But while a new Bieber banger to get us through lockdown 2.0 was enough to put a smile on our faces, it was what the Canadian singer wore on his feet that actually got us excited.
Also worn in the music video for the acoustic song, the trainers in question are by Nike (naturally – the man can't get enough of the brand, and even wears an SB beanie hat) and take the form of a high top, like the aforementioned trainers in Bieber's collection.
The predominantly red, white and black sneakers are chunkier than other Nike styles we've been served in recent years, and one could argue that the sole is veering into platform territory (you know, the sort of thing the Spice Girls would wear). What's more, Nike branding adorns the toe box, while the signature Nike swoosh has been layered over a bright yellow star – which has never been done before – and a cluster of laces hangs from the back counter.
And of course, it got us thinking. Off the back of his sell-out collaboration with Crocs, are we about to be served a Justin Bieber and Nike collaborative sneaker? Or are they simply a pair of trainers that Bieber designed on Nike's custom online shop?
We're hoping for the former.
