We all know the deal with Under Armour has fallen through after the apparel company has chosen to move forward without the record-setting contract. While that sifts through legal jargon before much more noteworthy has come out regarding to that, one thing was certain: The UCLA Bruins needed a new apparel deal more so than it needed to fight UA on specifics.
While many pointed to the Nike brand as a possibility right away, it looks as if the Nike Jordan Brand is the promising leader in the clubhouse right now.
According to a report from 247Sports, a deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand and UCLA looks ‘promising,’ though true details are lacking.
It is said that the Jordan Brand would supply UCLA apparel and gear to outfit the teams but it is uncertain whether or not the deal would agree to cover anything else, i.e. cash payments, which are common in these types of athletics agreements.
Jordan Brand is currently the outfitter of such teams in college as North Carolina (Michael Jordan’s alma mater), Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma and Houston in major college football and Marquette, San Diego State and Georgetown in major college basketball.
The brand is in each of the major Power-5 conferences, except the Pac-12, so a deal with UCLA makes more sense.
