MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. --

A team of instructional designers from Air University won a 2020 Gold Hermes Creative Award for their work on an interactive digital publication developed for use in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps curriculum

The instructional design team, led by James Damato, at the Jeanne M. Holm Center for Officer Accessions and Citizen Development collaborated with C2 Technologies to produce the Leadership Education 400: Fundamentals of Management curriculum, a senior-level leadership and management textbook available to 125,000 AFJROTC cadets across the world.

“The creativity and innovative concepts contained in this new, high-tech interactive digital publication garnered the award,” said Kevin Reuter, AFJROTC curriculum chief. “As a result of COVID-19, this IDP has been a huge success in remote learning for the AFJROTC program.”

The textbook is accessible on multiple portable devices, which allows JROTC cadets to perform activities, research content and watch videos illustrating concepts in the LE 400 academic program.

“We pride ourselves on providing top-notch educational opportunities for our cadets,” said Col. Stephen Sanders, AFJROTC director. “Most certainly, in today’s environment, these technology options are critical enablers to our citizenship development and the positive impact Air Force JROTC can make on such a large number of America’s youth.”

Hermes Creative Awards recognize and honor creators and messengers of informative media. Hermes winners have demonstrated an ability to give life to their ideas through traditional and digital platforms. Each year, judges from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals evaluate the creative industry’s best publications, branding collateral, websites, videos, advertising, marketing and communication programs.

“Our AFJROTC team continues to lean forward and tackle challenges while building leaders,” said Brig. Gen. Leslie Maher, Holm Center commander. “Winning this award has allowed others to see what the Holm Center team has always known. We have an awesome team willing to go the extra mile to bring a quality education to our citizenry. I am honored to work with such an innovative spirit.”
