Nike is celebrating late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant’s birthday in a big way.

In what is being called “Mamba Week,” Nike is releasing several Kobe Bryant items this week in honor of what would have been the 5-time NBA champion’s 42nd birthday on Sunday, August 23. Fans interested in the merchandise -- which includes five new versions of the Kobe V Protro Big Stage sneakers and two Lakers jersey releases -- can get them at Nike.com once they are released.

The first item on the schedule is the “Big Stage” edition of the Kobe V Protro sneakers, which feature “black and white tattoo-like art that references the 2009-10 season (the season in which Bryant won his fifth championship ring) on the upper alongside a metallic gold Nike swoosh,” according to the Los Angeles Times. The shoes will drop on Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern at Nike.com, the SNKRS app and select retailers.

Next up is the biggest haul of the week on Monday, August 24 -- a date Orange County declared Kobe Bryant Day earlier this month in honor of the two jersey numbers (8/24) he wore during his illustrious NBA career -- with another version of the Kobe V Protro sneakers (5x Champ) as well as a “Black Mamba”-inspired Los Angeles Lakers City Edition jersey. Both items will drop at 10 a.m. Eastern at Nike.com, the SNKRS app and select retailers.

The Lakers will wear the City Edition jerseys in Game 4 of their playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday, per TMZ.

On Thursday, August 27, Nike is releasing an authentic Los Angeles Lakers No. 8 Kobe Bryant jersey to mark the number he wore for the first decade of his NBA career. The item will be available at Nike.com.

Nike is marking the occasion with a $1 million donation to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation.

Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on January 26, 2020.
