adidas Reveals Donovan Mitchell's D.O.N. Issue #2 - HYPEBEAST

Utah Jazz forward Donovan Mitchell‘s “Determination over Negativity” mantra —D.O.N for short — resonates more than ever in 2020, so adidas has put it front and center on his new signature shoe, the D.O.N. Issue #2. Mitchell is hoping to use his newest signature shoe as a vessel for positive, sustainable change, stating “I’m not just a basketball player. I want kids to have my shoes not only because they are fans but because there’s a purpose behind them. I will continue to speak on what I feel is right and what needs to change.”

Although the D.O.N. Issue #2’s message is undeniably serious, it also explores Mitchell’s playful side and happy-go-lucky nature with its launch colorways: collaborations with Marvel and Crayola. The Marvel collaboration is an electric green and red “Spidey-Sense” makeup, juxtaposing one of Spider-Man‘s most notable powers with Mitchell’s trust in his instincts both on and off the NBA court. Laces spell out “Spidey-Sense!” while outsoles feature comic-book style “BOOM!” and “POW!” text hits.

Meanwhile, the three Crayola makeups are done up in in “Banana Mania,” “Sky Blue” and “Jazzberry Jam.” Each takes on a tonal palette and offers a clever nod to Mitchell’s mother, an elementary school teacher who pushed him to stay educated and raise his voice. “Free to Create” is scrawled across the laces, and Crayola graphics appear on the tongue and outsole.

From a performance standpoint, the D.O.N. Issue #2 uses a Crazy BYW-esque midsole with a full-foot BOUNCE cushioning setup. Heel counters are cut higher than the D.O.N. Issue #1 to aid with lockdown and call attention to Mitchell’s spider-inspired logo. Engineered mesh provides breathability, and a webbed lacing system ensures an exemplary fit.

The adidas D.O.N. Issue #2 will debut on the adidas webstore August 28 in the “Spidey-Sense” colorway, with the Crayola pack following on October 2. Later this fall, a nine-shoe “Team” pack, a candy-inspired “Gummy,” a retro-styled “Pick & Roll” that nods to John Stockton and Karl Malone and a “Mind Over Matter” makeup will release as well. All are priced at $100 USD.
