07/04 Update below. This post was originally published on July 2

There are a lot of concerns about Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20, but now the company has suddenly confirmed the stunning new flagship we should all be excited about.

Thanks to a big mistake by Samsung Russia (spotted by Max Weinbach), the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is now official. Samsung’s Russian website accidentally posted the images of the new phone in its ‘Mystic Bronze’ finish to the product page for the Galaxy Note 8 (cached page here, mislabelled image still here) and it’s the best looking smartphone Samsung has ever made.

07/04 Update: now the Galaxy Note 20 design is official, a render artist has been able to fill in the missing colors to complete the range. Mint (green) and purple finishes are understood to be coming alongside Mystic Bronze and the artist was able to use Samsung's own renders to create an exact replicate of these options. Samsung traditionally adds more colors over the lifespan of each Galaxy flagship (expect red in 3-6 months) but the mat finish of Mystic Bronze looks like the hot seller to me, based on user feedback. In addition to these finishes, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is expected to come in Black, Grey, Silver and White.

So what do we learn? Aside from confirming the design leaks were right (and every bit as impressive as hoped), the big news is the overhauled rear cameras. Unlike the monstrous, and somewhat tasteless, camera slab on the Galaxy S20 Ultra (complete with tacky 100x optical branding), the Note 20 Ultra has implemented a sleeker, branding-free design which also integrates a dedicated focus sensor in a new rectangular cut-out below the flash.

The focus sensor is a crucial upgrade because the Note 20 Ultra uses the same super high resolution 108MP primary camera as the Galaxy S20 Ultra, but its predecessor has been hamstrung by serious focus problems. Samsung adding the dedicated focus sensor to the Note 20 Ultra, therefore, is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it is great news for potential Note 20 Ultra buyers, on the other, it shows the S20 Ultra’s problems are unlikely to ever be fixed with software

For Galaxy Note 20 Ultra buyers, however, the good news continues. Samsung’s official images show the leaks were spot on. Consequently, there is now a high degree of confidence about the further information shared by supply chain sources. This includes faster storage, superior RAM, a larger battery capacity, support for 45W charging and next-generation biometric security. The Note 20 Ultra is also expected to be priced significantly cheaper than its S20 Ultra stablemate.

In fact, the only bad news to come from this is it means the leaked Galaxy Note 20 information is also likely to be correct. And that would make it a massive letdown
