The German neobank has partnered with Adidas to offer customers a 30% discount on their next online purchase from the sportswear retailer, Crowdfund Insider reports. Between now and October 15, N26 accountholders will be able to access the one-time discount via a dedicated N26 x Adidas link in the neobank's app.
Offering an online shopping discount is a great example of how neobanks can retool account perks for the coronavirus era. Neobank perks — such as low foreign exchange fees, fee-free foreign ATM withdrawals, or the use of airport lounges — are often travel-centric, and thus not currently valuable to customers who have largely been grounded in their homes amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Neobanks appear to be pivoting away from travel perks as a result: Monzo shelved the second iteration of its paid Monzo Plus offering early in the pandemic and instead debuted a version that emphasizes money management benefits. Providing online shopping discounts with a popular retailer is another way neobanks can align their offerings with the current environment, in which many consumers are sheltering in place. This is a strategy neobanks may want to deploy with greater frequency to keep customers engaged as the pandemic stretches on.
