Hermes is set to create thousands of jobs across the UK as online shopping demand soars following the coronavirus outbreak.

The shops may have reopened but many customers are still heading online for their haul with demand for delivery services set to last into the second half of the year.

Hermes has already invested £30m into expanding its operations this year so far, buying new vans and even opening new depot sites.

Hermes will be looking to hire an additional 9,000 couriers. While the majority of these workers will be classed as self-employed, the company will also hire 1,500 full-time staff.

The new recruits will join 4,515 staff and 20,000 couriers already working for the delivery company.

Martijn de Lange, the chief executive of Hermes UK, said: "The pandemic has expedited the already phenomenal growth of online shopping and we see no sign of this changing. As a result, it is important that we have the right infrastructure and people in place to support this.

"This is good news for the many people who have sadly had their income affected and we are pleased to be able to support the UK economy with so many jobs at this time."

You can keep a lookout for upcoming Hermes roles on its website here as recruitment begins ahead of the busy season in the run up to Christmas.

Job postings here suggest Hermes are in need of couriers in Edinburgh, based at South Gyle, and a delivery manager.
